Access Guide
Egress
- Students who require assistance with evacuating a building will have a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP). If there is an emergency on a campus or on University premises the University Security team would check if a student needed support to evacuate.
- If you are on campus, the University Security team can be called at any time to report an incident/emergency on 01225 875 555.
Access To
- The lecture theatre is on the ground floor, to the right hand side of the building.

- The most accessible route has step-free level access, a lift and manual doors.
- There is written text signage on or near the entrance.
- There is step-free level access into the Lecture Theatre.
- There are double manual doors which open towards you.
- One of the doors was locked at the time of the survey.
- The locked door can be opened on request .
- The width of the opening is 135cm.
- The doors have a low visual contrast.
Teaching
- This is a lecture theatre.
- There is step-free level access to the speaker’s area and front row only.
- The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: the rows to the left after you enter the room.
- The following areas have stepped access: the rows to the right after you enter the room.
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
- There is a fixed hearing assistance system which is not clearly signed.
- The hearing assistance system was tested, however it was not working at the time of the survey.
- Floor coverings are not even and could potentially cause a trip hazard.
- The walls and floor have a low visual contrast.
- Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.
- Lighting levels are adjustable.
- There is tiered seating with no handrails at the ramp.
