Getting Help and Assistance

Toilet with Adaptations (Track 3 - Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located at the rear of the baggage area by track 3.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • There is pictorial, written text and ‘Not All Disabilities Are Visible’ signage on or near the door.
  • The door to enter opens outwards and has a medium visual contrast with the surrounding walls.

Car Rental Desks

  • The car rental desks are located in the Arrivals Hall.
  • There is clear signage to the car rental desks.

  • There is not a member of staff available to assist with bags at the car rental desk.
  • The height of the desks varies between different companies, ranging from 105cm to 119cm.

Shop (WHSmith - Arrivals)

    • There is a clearly signed fixed hearing assistance system.
    • The hearing assistance system was tested, however it was not working at the time of the survey.
    • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.

Eating and Drinking (Ritazza)

  • Location and Service View
    • Ritazza is located in the Arrivals Hall, to the left as you enter from the Domestic Baggage Reclaim or the right as you enter from the International Baggage Reclaim and Customs.
    • The most accessible route has a slight ramp or slope and narrow walkways.
    • This area has a counter where food and drink can be ordered, staff who can provide assistance with ordering and numerous seating options.
    • Full table service is not available.
    • Menus are wall-mounted and digital.
    • The following dietary requirements can be catered for: gluten free, dairy free, lactose free, nut allergy and vegetarian.
    • The following are available: drinking straws and takeaway cups.
    • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • Order and Payment View
    • The service counter was surveyed.
    • There is step-free level access to the counter.
    • The height of the counter is 115cm.
    • There is not a lowered section at the counter.
    • The counter has patterned/distracting backgrounds which may affect the ability of someone to lip read.
  • Seating Area View
    • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
    • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: the lower seating area.
    • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is space for an assistance dog to rest.
    • Some flooring is shiny and patterned.
    • The walls and floor have a medium visual contrast.
    • Seating available in this area includes: chairs with armrests, benches, stools and high stools.
    • Furniture available in this area includes: tables and high tables.
    • Some chairs and tables are fixed.
    • The surface height of some of the tables is suitable for wheelchair users.
    • The clear height under some of the tables is suitable for wheelchair users.
    • There is background noise in this area.
    • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.

Ramp / Slope (Ritazza)

  • The ramp is located on the left of the café in the Arrivals Hall.
  • The ramp is used to access the café main seating area and counter.
  • The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with handrails on both sides.
  • The ramp bypasses the steps.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

Steps (Ritazza)

  • The steps are located at the front of the café in the Arrivals Hall.
  • The steps are used to access the café main seating area and counter.
  • There are 4 steps, which are unmarked, with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the highest step is 15cm.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is a second similar set of steps to the right of the café.

Toilet with Adaptations (Arrivals - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located in the Arrivals Hall on the right past the car hire counters.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door to enter opens outwards and has a high visual contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 83cm.
  • The door has a lever twist lock.
  • Internally the door has a high visual contrast.
  • There is a grab rail on the internal door with a low visual contrast.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 236cm x 211cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.

  • There is step-free access via ramp after you exit.
  • There is a slight ramp over 150cm wide beyond the exit, , with handrails on both sides.

Exit (Main Exit)

  • This exit is located to the right at the bottom of the Arrivals ramp.
  • There are no help points available.
  • There is step-free level access at the exit.
  • There are double automatic doors which open by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 260cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is a second set of automatic doors which open by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 213cm.
  • The second doors have a low visual contrast.
  • These doors give access to the main car parks, pick up/set down, public buses, car hire pick up, and hotel.
  • An alternative door gives access to taxis, park & fly, car park buses, aircoach, and private coaches. The door is 191cm wide.
