Access Guide
Access To
- MAL B35 is located on Level B of Birkbeck Malet Street, to the left and ahead as you exit Lift A.

- The most accessible route has step-free level access, a lift, manual doors and doors permanently held open.
- There is numbered signage on or near the entrance.
- There is step-free level access into MAL B35.
- There are double manual doors which open towards you.
- One of the doors was locked at the time of the survey.
- The width of the opening is 76cm.
- The doors have a high visual contrast.
Entrance (Stage)
- This entrance is located on Level B, to the left of the B35 main entrance.
- The entrance area is clearly signed.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There are double manual doors at this entrance, however one door is locked.
- The doors open towards you.
- The width of the opening is 76cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
- The doors have a high visual contrast.
- This entrance gives step-free level access to the stage, bypassing the steps and lift to the stage inside the lecture theatre.
Teaching
- This is a lecture theatre.
- There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas, this may include the use of a lift.
- The following areas have stepped access: the middle rows of seating.
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
- There is a portable hearing assistance system on request.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- Some flooring is shiny.
- Floor coverings are even with no trip hazards.

Lift (Platform Lift - Stage)
- The lift surveyed is located to the left of the stage in B35.

- The front 2 rows of seating and the stage are accessed by this lift.
- The lift door has a low visual contrast.
- The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
- The external lift control buttons have a high visual contrast.
- All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The lift door opening width is 90cm.
- The internal dimensions of the lift are 110cm (width) x 142cm (depth).
- The internal lift control buttons have a high visual contrast.
- All of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The button needs to be pressed constantly when in use.
