Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free and level.
  • The Old Firestation has two step-free level entrances, one at the front of the building and one at the rear of the building.
  • Entrances are unsigned.
  • The most accessible entrance is the main entrance at the front of the building.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access via lift throughout the majority of the building on all floors.
  • There is a step up into the booth in the Engine Room on the ground floor. There is a ramp up to an elevated viewing area on both sides of the nightclub on the ground floor. There is a step up to booths in this area. There is a marked step on the threshold to the entrances to the first floor bars. There is a step up to a seating area in the first floor bar which is bypassed by a steep ramp. There is another steep ramp in this area.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
  • There are seating areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
  • There are manual doors in circulation routes throughout the building.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There are 2 toilets with adaptations.
    • The toilet with adaptations is located on the right as you enter and on the first floor at the rear of the bar.
    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
    • The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located ahead as you enter the nightclub.
    • The male and female toilet facilities are located at the rear of the bar on the first floor.

    • The car park is located at the rear of the building.
    • The car park is open air/surface.
    • The car park surface consists of tarmac.
    • There are no designated Blue Badge parking bays available.

Reception (Cloakroom)

  • The reception is located on the second floor on the left as you exit the lift.
  • The distance from the lift is 2m.
  • There is step-free level access via lift to reception.
  • The height of the reception desk is 102cm.
  • There is not a lowered section at the desk.
  • There is a portable hearing assistance system on request.
  • There is background noise in this area which varies depending on the time of day.
  • The flooring is shiny.
  • Lighting levels were low at the time of the survey.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre in the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located behind the main staircase on the left of the building.
  • The distance from the main entrance is 50m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • The ground, first and second floors are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a low visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The weight limit for the lift is 630kg.
  • The majority of the external controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 80cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 108cm (width) x 140cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings, Braille markings and a low visual contrast.

    • The bar was surveyed.
    • The counter is located on the left as you enter the nightclub.
    • There is step-free level access to the counter.
    • The height of the counter is 112cm.
    • There is not a lowered section at the counter.

  • Seating Area View
    • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
    • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: The viewing areas either side of the stage. .
    • There is not room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is space for an assistance dog to rest.
    • Some flooring is shiny.
    • The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
    • Seating available in this area includes: benches.

Toilet with Adaptations (Left Hand Transfer)

    • The toilet surveyed is located on the ground floor to the right of the main entrance.
    • The distance from main entrance is 5m.
    • The most accessible route to the toilet has step-free level access, slight ramps or slopes and doors permanently held open.
    • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • The door opens outwards and has a high visual contrast.
    • The door requires effort to open.
    • The width of the door opening is 85cm.
    • The door has a locking handle (with a RADAR key to access).
    • Internally the door has a high visual contrast.
    • There is a grab rail on the internal door with a high visual contrast.
  • Dimensions and Features View
    • The dimensions of the cubicle are 146cm (width) x 197cm (depth) and there is not room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
