Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach at the main entrance is step-free and level.
    There are sloped approaches of varying degrees which bypass steps as you approach the Lecture Centre from the shopping parade or the campus entrance side.
  • The Lecture Centre has four entrances.
    There is stepped access at the south entrance. The two entrances on the west side and the main entrance on the north side have step-free level access.
    There are card readers to enter at each entrance.
  • The north and south entrances are signed 'Lecture Centre'. The west side entrances are not signed.
  • The main entrance on the south side of the building provides step-free access to the lobby.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free access throughout the building on all floors.
  • There is a restricted access to level 3 via the west stairwell due to staff office area. Access to level 3 can be gained via the east stairwell or lifts.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
  • There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
  • Overhead and wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
  • There are some manual doors in circulation corridors. There are manual doors to access both east and west stairwells on all floors.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There are 5 toilets with adaptations.
    • Toilets with adaptations are located to the right of the main entrance on level G and to the left as you exit the lifts on levels 1 and 2.
    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
    • Ambulant toilet facilities are located on level G, 1 and 2 within the male and female standard toilets along the east and west side corridors.
    • The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located on level G, 1 and 2 along the east and west side corridors.

Campus Car Park

    • The car park is located along the Campus North Loop Road.
    • The car park is open air/surface.
    • The car park surface consists of tarmac.
    • There are 9 designated Blue Badge parking bays available.
    • The Blue Badge bays are clearly marked.
    • The surveyed Blue Badge parking bay dimensions are 240cm (width) x 470cm (depth).
    • There is a marked zone to one side but not at the rear.
    • The width of the marked zone is 120cm.
    • There is a dropped kerb with tactile paving from the designated Blue Badge parking.
    • The nearest buildings to the car park are the Biology Annexe, Howell, the Design and Print Service (Press Building), the Heinz Wolff building, Bragg and Quad North.
    • This car park is also the nearest with Blue Badge parking bays for the Lecture Centre.

Entrance (Main Entrance)

  • This entrance is located on the north side of the building in the Quad.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 112cm.
  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 150cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 115cm.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located in front of you as you enter the main entrance.
  • The distance from the main entrance is 9m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • The levels G, 1, 2 and 3 are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a low visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The weight limit for the lift is 630kg.
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a low visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 86cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 105cm (width) x 140cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have a low visual contrast and tactile markings.
  • All of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • Internally the lift has: a list of floor services/facilities, a visual floor indicator and an audible announcer.
  • Lighting levels vary due to the use of large glazed walls.
  • There are other lifts available at this location which are of a similar size.
  • The similar lift next to this one goes to levels G, 1 and Mezzanine.

Stairs (East)

  • The stairs surveyed are located to the left as you enter the main entrance.
  • There are double manual doors to access the stairwell.
  • The levels G, 1, 2, M and 3 can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 18 steps between floors.
  • The steps have low visual contrast markings and have handrails on both sides.

    • The most accessible route to the toilet has step-free level access.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
    • The door opens outwards and has a high visual contrast.
    • The width of the door opening is 83cm.
    • The door has a locking handle.
    • Internally the door has a high visual contrast.
    • There is not a grab rail on the internal door .
  • Dimensions and Features View
    • The dimensions of the cubicle are 180cm (width) x 198cm (depth) and there is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the left as you face the toilet, however it is obstructed.
    • The lateral transfer space is 122cm (from the side of the toilet pan).
    • There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
    • There is a horizontal grab rail on the non-transfer side.
    • The horizontal grab rail has a high visual contrast.
    • There are vertical grab rails on both sides of the toilet.
    • The vertical grab rails have a high visual contrast.
    • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
    • The dropdown rail has a high visual contrast.
    • The toilet seat is 46cm from the floor.
