Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free with some approaches on long slopes with a slight gradient.
  • Step-free pedestrian access for the lower ground floor entrance is from Lambeth Palace Road.
  • Step-free pedestrian access for the ground floor entrance is from Lambeth Palace Road or Westminster Bridge Road. There is step-free level access from Westminster Bridge Road.
  • There is an accessible entrance to the lower ground floor from the car park, and an accessible pedestrian entrance to the ground floor opposite Gassiot House.

Getting Around

  • There are 12 steps leading to a mezzanine level in the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences on the fourth floor. The steps are clearly marked, with a handrail on the left-hand side going up. There is not a lift to overcome these steps.
  • Floor surfaces are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
  • There are resting areas in many circulation areas with a mixture of seating available.
  • Wall mounted wayfinding signage, maps and floor plans is provided throughout the building.
  • There are manual doors in corridors, with many permanently held open.

    • There are 4 toilets with adaptations.
    • Toilets with adaptations are located on the lower ground floor to the left of the lifts, and on the second, third and fourth floors.
    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
    • There is a right-hand transfer space in the toilets with adaptations on the lower ground floor and the second floor.
    • There is a left-hand transfer space in the toilets with adaptations on the third and fourth floors.
    • The toilet with adaptations on the third floor does not have a clear manoeuvring space.
    • Ambulant toilet facilities are located within the female and male standard toilets on the lower ground floor, on the second and third floors, and within the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences on the fourth floor.
