Access To

  • The College Chapel is located on Level 2 of the King's Building.
  • Step-free access to the King's Building is via the Strand Building.

  • The most accessible route has a lift, a slight ramp or slope, manual doors, shiny flooring and patterned flooring.
  • The slope is located before the Level 0 internal entrance from the Strand Building to the King's Building.
  • There is written text signage on or near the entrance.
  • There is step-free level access into the Chapel.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently held open.
  • The width of the opening is 141cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • The main doors are kept closed during services and events. There are adjacent manual double doors either side of the main doors. The side doors are permanently held open to an open door width of 83cm.

Room

  • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
  • The following areas have stepped access: the altar and the rear stalls.
    There is an initial medium height step to the front of the Chapel, with a further 2 medium height steps to the central altar. There is an additional medium height step to the seating area behind the altar. There are also 2 medium height steps up to the stalls near the entrance.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is space for an assistance dog to rest.
  • The flooring is shiny and patterned.
  • The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
  • Seating available in the room includes: chairs without armrests and benches.
  • Furniture available in the room includes: high tables and long tables.
  • Some seating and tables are fixed.
  • Some surface heights are suitable for wheelchair users.
  • The clear underside space of some surfaces is suitable for wheelchair users.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • There is background noise in this area which varies depending on the function/event .
  • Lighting levels vary due to the size of the space.
  • There are some narrow walkways less than 75cm wide within the Chapel. Access along the pew seating is width restricted to 60cm.
