Overview

Getting Help and Assistance

  • For information about the Special Assistance at Manchester Airport please click here (new tab).
  • There is a member of staff available for help and assistance.
  • British Sign Language can be provided virtually.
  • There is a designated assistance dog spending area.
  • The sunflower room is located in the Terminal 1 Departures Lounge.
    There is an assistance dog spending area located in Terminal 2 next to Departure Gates B.
    Passengers are escorted to this area by a member of staff.
    Passengers with booked assistance: Passengers who have booked assistance should note that you can only be dropped off near to the Departures area.
    If you require help to get to the assistance check-in desk, passenger's helpers are required to park in the short-term parking at arrivals, walk through to arrivals, go up a lift and around the corner to reach the assistance check-in desk, and request further assistance for the passenger.
    All parking in the multi-storey is pre-booked only.

Parking (Pre Book Only)

  • The car park is located next to the terminal accessed off International Approach at ground level.
  • This is a multi storey car park with a concrete surface.
  • The height of the height restriction barrier is 200cm.
  • The car park has a push button barrier control system.
  • Controls for the barrier may be difficult to reach.
  • There are 8 designated Blue Badge parking bays available.
  • Blue Badge parking is clearly marked and signposted.
  • The Blue Badge parking bay dimensions are 230cm x 360cm.
  • There is a marked zone on both sides and to the rear.
  • There are help points available, but not at a low level.
  • There are not parent and child parking bays available.

Exit (Level 7 - Pink Zone Parking)

  • This exit is located to the right of the Blue Badge bays on Level 7.
  • There are low level help points available.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the exit.
  • The slight ramp is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • Beyond the exit from the car park there is a gap at the end of the walkway which is en route to the lifts.
    The gap has a width of 80cm.
    There is a steep ramp going down at this point.
  • There are double automatic doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 182cm.
  • The doors have a high visual contrast.
  • There is a second set of manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 206cm.
  • The second doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is step-free level access after you exit.

Exit (Level 7 - Blue Zone Parking)

  • This exit is located to the right of the Blue Badge bays on Level 7 - Blue Zone.
  • There are low level help points available.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the exit.
  • The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are double automatic doors which open away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 182cm.
  • The doors have a high visual contrast.
  • Beyond the exit from the car park there is a gap at the end of the walkway which is en route to the lifts.
    The gap has a width of 80cm.
    There is a steep ramp going down at this point.
  • There is a second set of manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 208cm.
  • The second doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is step-free level access after you exit.

Lift (T3 Multi Storey Car Park)

  • The lift is located at the end of the Link Bridge, in the central lobby of Terminal 1.
  • The floors which are accessible by the lift surveyed are G, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11.
  • The lift does have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
  • The lift door has a medium visual contrast.
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at the recommended height (between 90cm - 120cm).
  • The lift door opening width is 226cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 315cm x 274cm.
  • The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • All of the internal lift controls are at the recommended height (between 90cm - 120cm).
  • Internally the lift has: a visual floor indicator and a list of floor services/facilities.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There are other lifts which are similar in size at the same location.

Stairs

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11.
  • There are more than 20 steps, which are clearly marked, with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrail is not easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • Steps are split with a resting area.
  • The height of the highest step is 17cm.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

Pick up and Drop Off Points (Check In A Drop Off)

  • There is a clearly marked accessible drop off point available.
  • There is a clearly marked drop off point available.
  • The drop-off point is located up the access ramp onto level 3 of the multi storey car park (signed as drop off).
  • The drop-off point is limited to 30 minutes for a charge of £5 for 5 minutes, £6-40 for 10 minutes, and £25 for 30 minutes.
  • The most accessible route from the drop-off point to the terminal has dropped kerbs without tactile paving.
