Overview

  • About View
    • This guide covers the route from Arrivals Gates C to exit the terminal building including Border Control, Baggage Reclaim and the Arrivals Hall.
  • Getting In and Around View
    • There is step-free level access at the most accessible entrance.
    • There is step-free level access throughout, this may include the use of a lift.
    • Access throughout may include doors permanently held open.
    • Floors 0, 1 and 2 can be accessed via a standard lift, stairs and escalator.

  • British Sign Language can be provided virtually.
  • There is a designated assistance dog spending area.
  • The sunflower room is located in the Terminal 1 Departures Lounge.
    There is an assistance dog spending area located in Terminal 2 next to Departure Gates B.
    Passengers are escorted to this area by a member of staff.
    Passengers with booked assistance: Passengers who have booked assistance should note that you can only be dropped off near to the Departures area.
    If you require help to get to the assistance check-in desk, passenger's helpers are required to park in the short-term parking at arrivals, walk through to arrivals, go up a lift and around the corner to reach the assistance check-in desk, and request further assistance for the passenger.
    All parking in the multi-storey is pre-booked only.

Getting from the Arrivals Gates

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • There are 10 toilets with adaptations.
  • Toilets with adaptations are located in the corridor outside gates C6 and C4, before border control, baggage claim and the arrivals hall.

Toilet with Adaptations (Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located on the right after gate C6.

    • The dimensions of the cubicle are 150cm x 220cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.

  • This Changing Places facility is located at the right end of the border control desks.
  • The facility is additional to standard and accessible toilets, and is not located close to other managed facilities.

    • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • The door to enter opens outwards and has a low visual contrast with the surrounding walls.

  • The external lift control buttons have a low visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at the recommended height (between 90cm - 120cm).

  • The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings, Braille markings and a low visual contrast.

Escalator (Border Control to Baggage Claim)

Stairs (Border Control to Baggage Claim)

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are to the right from border control.
  • There are more than 20 steps, which are clearly marked, with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • Steps are split with a resting area.

Baggage Claim

  • The most accessible route from Border Control to Baggage Claim has step-free level access and a lift.

  • The counter is located at the rear of carousel 8.
  • The counter is clearly visible from the entrance.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 94cm.
  • The lowered section of the counter is at a height of 72cm.
  • There is not a clear knee recess beneath the lowered section of the counter.
  • The counter has televisions and patterned backgrounds which may affect the ability of someone to lip read.
