- There is step-free level access via lift at the most accessible entrance.
- There is step-free level access throughout.
- Level 1 can be accessed via a standard lift, stairs and escalator.
Temporary - The Hangar Lounge
- As of July 2025, this area is temporarily being used as The Hangar Lounge, following the closure of the Escape Lounge.
Getting Help and Assistance
- For information about the Special Assistance at Manchester Airport please click here (new tab).
- There is a member of staff available for help and assistance.
- British Sign Language can be provided virtually.
- There is a designated assistance dog spending area.
- The sunflower room is located in the Terminal 1 Departures Lounge.
There is an assistance dog spending area located in Terminal 2 next to Departure Gates B.
Passengers are escorted to this area by a member of staff.
Passengers with booked assistance: Passengers who have booked assistance should note that you can only be dropped off near to the Departures area.
If you require help to get to the assistance check-in desk, passenger's helpers are required to park in the short-term parking at arrivals, walk through to arrivals, go up a lift and around the corner to reach the assistance check-in desk, and request further assistance for the passenger.
All parking in the multi-storey is pre-booked only.

Getting To Departure Gates
- Assistance vehicles are not available.
- There are resting/seating areas along the route.
- Wayfinding signage is available along the route.
- Lighting levels are varied.

Toilet and Changing Facilities
- There is 1 toilet with adaptations.
- Toilets with adaptations are located on floor 1.
- The toilet with adaptations has a right hand transfer space.
- Step-free male and female toilet facilities are located on floor 1.
- Parent and baby changing facilities are located on floor 1.
Lift (To Gates 37 and 38)
- The lift is located to the left from security.
- The floors which are accessible by the lift surveyed are floors 1 and 2.
- The lift does have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
- The lift door has a high visual contrast.
- The external lift control buttons have a low visual contrast, Braille markings and tactile markings.
- All of the external lift controls are at the recommended height (between 90cm - 120cm).
- The lift door opening width is 111cm.
- The internal dimensions of the lift are 140cm x 190cm.
- The internal lift control buttons have Braille markings, tactile markings and a low visual contrast.
- All of the internal lift controls are at the recommended height (between 90cm - 120cm).
- Internally the lift has: a separate door to exit, a visual floor indicator, an audible announcer and a list of floor services/facilities.
- Lighting levels are low.
Escalator (To Gates 37 and 38)
- The escalator is located to the left after security.
- The floors which are accessible by escalator are floors 1 and 2.
- The escalator only goes down.
- The escalator steps are clearly marked.
- The foot (bottom) and head (top) of the escalator are clearly marked.
- Lighting levels are varied.
Stairs (To Gates 37 and 38)
- The floors which are accessible by stairs are floors 1 and 2.
- There are more than 20 steps, which are clearly marked, with handrails on both sides.
- The handrails are easy to grip.
- The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
- The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
- Steps are split with a resting area.
- The height of the highest step is 16cm.
- Lighting levels are varied.
Seating Area
- The seating area is located near departure gates 37 to 38.
- There is step-free level access in this area.
- There is not designated seating available for people who require assistance.
- There is space for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre in the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
- There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.
- There are chairs without armrests, high stools and high tables available in this area.
- The tables are not suitable for wheelchair users (between 70cm - 80cm and free from obstruction).
- Some flooring is shiny.
- There is no (or very little) background noise.
- There is not a hearing assistance system.
- Lighting levels are varied.
Toilet with Adaptations (Gates 37 and 38 - Right Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located on floor 1, beyond Gate 37.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- There is pictorial, written text and ‘Not All Disabilities Are Visible’ signage on or near the door.
- The door to enter opens outwards and has a high visual contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 86cm.
- The door has a locking handle.
- Internally the door has a high visual contrast.
- There is a grab rail on the internal door with a high visual contrast.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 252cm x 246cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
- The lateral transfer space is 189cm (from the side of the toilet pan to the wall).
- There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
- There is a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side.
- The horizontal grab rail has a high visual contrast with the surrounding walls.

- There are no seats available in this room.
- There is not a toilet in the parent and baby room.
- The room has a waste bin and a nappy/incontinence items bin.
Departure Gates
- The departure gate(s) in this area are 37 and 38.
- There is clear signage to the departure gates.
- The height of the documentation check desk is very high (111cm+).
- There is a lowered section of the documentation check desk available at 37 and 38.
- There is step-free access via lift to 37 and 38.

Ambulift
- The clear door width of the platform lift used to access the Ambulift is 95cm.
- The dimensions of the platform lift used to access the Ambulift are 236cm x 137cm.
- There are no separate entry and exit doors in the lift.
- There is seating available in the Ambulift.
- There are chairs with armrests and bench seats available in the Ambulift.
