Getting Help and Assistance

  • The sunflower room is located in the Terminal 1 Departures Lounge.
    There is an assistance dog spending area located in Terminal 2 next to Departure Gates B.
    Passengers are escorted to this area by a member of staff.
    Passengers with booked assistance: Passengers who have booked assistance should note that you can only be dropped off near to the Departures area.
    If you require help to get to the assistance check-in desk, passenger's helpers are required to park in the short-term parking at arrivals, walk through to arrivals, go up a lift and around the corner to reach the assistance check-in desk, and request further assistance for the passenger.
    All parking in the multi-storey is pre-booked only.

Getting To Departure Gates

Toilet and Changing Facilities

Ramp / Slope (To Gates 44 to 48)

  • The ramp is used to access Gates 44 to 48.
  • The slight ramp is over 150cm wide, with handrails on both sides.
  • Lighting levels are bright.

Seating Area

  • The seating area is located at the departure gates.
  • There is step-free access in this area via ramps/slopes.
  • There is not designated seating available for people who require assistance.
  • There is space for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre in the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.
  • There are a mixture of fixed chairs with and without armrests and fixed tables available in this area.
  • The tables are not suitable for wheelchair users (between 70cm - 80cm and free from obstruction).
  • Some flooring is shiny.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • Lighting levels are varied.

Departure Gates (Gates 44 to 50)

  • The departure gate(s) in this area are 44 to 50.
  • There is clear signage to the departure gates.
  • The height of the documentation check desk is very high (111cm+).
  • There is a lowered section of the documentation check desk available at 44 to 50.
  • There is step-free access via lift to 44 to 50.
  • The gradient of the airbridge ramps may vary as they are height adjustable.
  • Only Gate 44 has an airbridge in this area.
  • There is step free access to the aircraft via airbridge from 44.
  • There is step free access (via lift) to the aircraft via the tarmac from 45 to 50.
  • There is an Ambulift available.
  • The accessibility of the individual aircraft varies depending on the provider. Please contact your airline company prior to booking for more information.

Lift

  • The lift is located between Gates 47 and 48.
  • The floors which are accessible by the lift surveyed are floors 1, 2 and 3.
  • The lift does have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift door opening width is 110cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 140cm x 190cm.
  • Internally the lift has: a separate door to exit, an audible announcer and a list of floor services/facilities.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There are other lifts which vary in size at the same location.
  • This lift can only be operated by a member of staff.

Stairs

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are floors 1, 2 and 3.
  • There are 18 steps, which are clearly marked, with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the highest step is 15cm.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

Toilet with Adaptations (Departure Lounge Level 2 - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located on the right towards Gates 44 to 50.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • There is pictorial, written text and ‘Not All Disabilities Are Visible’ signage on or near the door.
  • The door to enter opens outwards and has a low visual contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 87cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • Internally the door has a low visual contrast.
  • There is a grab rail on the internal door with a high visual contrast.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 245cm x 196cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
