Public Transport

  • There is not a bus stop within approximately 150m of the property.
  • There is a bus stop immediately outside the vehicular entrance to the property, on the B2146. This is approximately 650 metres from the visitor reception.
  • The nearest train station is Petersfield.
  • Petersfield station is approximately 5.5 miles away, with regular direct bus services from here to the bus stop outside the vehicular entrance to the property (bus route 54).

Parking

  • The property has a car park.
  • The vehicle route from the main road to the car park includes: speed bumps.
  • This is an open air car park with a loose chippings surface.
  • Parking is free for National Trust members and Blue Badge holders, but charges apply for all other visitors.
  • There are clearly presented payment signs.
  • Maps and information boards are available.
  • There are 6 Blue Badge parking bays.
  • Obstacles from the car park include: loose chippings, slopes/ramps, uneven surfaces and a lack of pedestrian walkways to cross the car park.
  • There are not parent and child parking bays available.
  • There is a designated drop-off point which is flush to the footpath.
  • A disabled drop off point/parking area can be made available directly outside the house entrance - please contact the venue in advance or speak to staff/volunteers on the day to arrange use of this.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: accessible maps.
  • You can borrow these from visitor recepetion. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Visitor Reception

  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The ramp is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 147cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of more than 1.5cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There is room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) throughout the area.
  • All flooring is smooth and even.
  • Some of the flooring has a very shiny finish, which could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 92cm.
  • There is not a low level section at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested, however it was not working at the time of the survey.
  • Services/facilities available include: a portable card machine for payment and a member of staff to provide assistance.
  • There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • The exit door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the exit door opening is 78cm.

Picnic Area

  • The following information describes the picnic area located on the left hand side of the path leading from the car park to the garden entrance.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope (which bypasses any steps).
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are 6 steps, which are unmarked, with a handrail on the right going up.
  • There are picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are available.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 63cm.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 67cm.
  • The surface height of the lowest table is 69cm.
  • The surface height of the highest table is 74cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: seating which is fixed to tables.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass and compacted earth.

Standard Toilet

  • Access into the toilet is via steps.
  • There are 4 steps, which are unmarked, with a handrail on the right going up.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 64cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
  • The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 56cm.
  • The wash basin tap type is push.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There are no hand dryers.
  • The first 3 steps are unmarked, the last step is clearly marked.
    There is a handrail on the left going up for the steps to access the female toilets.
