Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: accessible maps.
- You can borrow these from visitor recepetion. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (the Second Hand Bookshop)
- From the visitor reception, turn right and go straight ahead along the path leading away from the car park.
Cross the service road and enter the garden through the gate.
Continue straight ahead along the main tree-lined pathway as it slopes downhill.
Turn left up the slope as you approach the house; then left again towards the Game Parlour. Turn right and head around the edge of the East Pavilion; the entrance to the second hand bookshop is then on the right. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope and is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are bonded gravel, paving stones, gravel and tarmac.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Shop
- There is step-free level access into the shop.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 104cm.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- The majority of aisle widths are under 150cm.
- Some flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
- Some of the flooring includes large repeating patterns in bold colours, which may look like steps or holes to some people.
- There is step-free level access around the shop.
- There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is step-free level access to the counter.
- The height of the counter is 93cm.
- There is not a low level counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The counter is placed in front of a patterned background.
- The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.

Toilet with Adaptations (Second Hand Bookshop - Left Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located to the left as you enter the second hand bookshop.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- This toilet is approximately 10m from the entrance.
- There is pictorial, Braille, written text and tactile signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 78cm.
- The door has a lever twist lock.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 153cm x 221cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
- The lateral transfer space is 87cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a lever flush on the non transfer side.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side.
- There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
- The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: wash basin and toilet roll holder.
