Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs, a running buggy and mountain trikes. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from the Information Centre. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • All mobility equipment is available to borrow free of charge.
    There is also a free shuttle bus that visitors can request to take them to the Conservatory Café or riverside.
    The shuttle bus is wheelchair accessible.
    There are securing clamps inside to secure wheelchairs.
    The shuttle bus has a working hearing loop.

Route to (Cliveden House)

  • Take a right from the accessible car park bays and exit the car park area.
    After the gates, turn right and cross the road at the zebra crossing, turning left on the service road. Continue straight on this road towards Cliveden House.
    At the top of the road you will reach a junction.
    At the junction, turn left and the Conservatory Café will be located on the right.
    Go through the Conservatory Café outdoors seating area till you reach a gate.
    At this gate, take a right and you will then reach the tour waiting area where a tour guide will take you around Cliveden House.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, concrete, cobbles and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Entrance (East Wing)

  • The entrance surveyed is located on the left of Cliveden House.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 2 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • Some of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 120cm.
  • The second opening does not have a minimum height of 200cm.

Tour

  • The tour is guided.
  • The tour takes approximately 30 minutes.
  • There is stepped access along the tour route.
  • There are doorways or openings used on the tour which are under 75cm wide.
  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • The tour can not be adapted to avoid inaccessible areas.
  • The tour route may vary depending on the day.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise along the tour route.
  • There are sofas, chairs with armrests and chairs without armrests at regular intervals along the tour.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • Some of the flooring includes large repeating patterns in bold colours, which may look like steps or holes to some people.
  • Lighting levels are varied throughout the tour route.
  • The type of chairs along the walkways vary depending on the hotel's availability.

Exit (French Dining Room)

  • The exit is located to the rear of the French Dining Room.
  • There is step-free level access at the exit.
  • There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 156cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the exit with a height of more than 1.5cm.
  • There are 3 steps beyond the exit, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • Some of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • Tour guides would hold the door open to let visitors out.

Exit (West Wing)

  • The exit is located to the far right of Cliveden House.
  • There is step-free level access at the exit.
  • There is a single manual door which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 104cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the exit with a height of less than 1.5cm.
