Parking (Quay Car Park)

  • This site has a car park.
  • The vehicle route from the main road to the car park includes: potholes.
  • This is an open air car park with a gravel surface.
  • Parking is free for National Trust members, but charges apply for all other visitors.
  • There are clearly presented payment signs.
  • Maps and information boards are available.
  • There are 4 Blue Badge parking bays.
  • Obstacles from the car park include: slopes/ramps and a lack of pedestrian walkways to cross the car park.
  • There are not parent and child parking bays available.
  • There is not a designated drop-off point.

Route to (the Quay Information Centre)

  • From the Quay Car Park, continue straight ahead and go past The Edgcumbe café.
    Turn left outside of the café and follow the path slightly downhill.
    The information centre is on the right.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.
  • The visitor shuttle goes from the main car park to the quay.

Visitor Centre

  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 248cm.
  • Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of more than 1.5cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the visitor centre.
  • The majority of aisle widths are under 150cm.
  • There is room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) within the majority of the visitor centre.
  • All flooring is smooth and even.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 96cm.
  • There is not a low level section at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The counter is placed in front of a patterned background.
  • The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.

Entrance (Quay Toilet Block)

  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.

  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.

Toilet with Adaptations (Quay Toilet Block - Ambulant - No Transfer Space)

  • This toilet is located outside to the right of the information centre.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 3m from the toilet block entrance.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens both ways and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 88cm.
  • The door has a lever twist lock.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 124cm x 275cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is not a lateral transfer space next to the seat.
  • There is a spatula flush on the right, but there is no transfer space.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the left as you face the toilet and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the right as you face the seat.
