    Mobility scooters are not permitted inside the House - users are requested to transfer to a manual wheelchair, where required, in order to access the House.
    Seating is available in every room.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • Mobility scooters may be used across site but may not be taken into the House.

Route to (the House)

  • From the Visitor Reception, exit the double doors behind reception and follow the main accessible path around the stables building to the House.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are concrete, gravel and cobbles.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Entrance (Showroom Area)

  • The main entrance has stone steps and a manual door permanently held open.
    Visitors requiring step-free access should speak with a member of staff at the main entrance, and step-free access will be made available via the Servants' Courtyard, which has a level stone set path into the House, and the two platform lifts. .

House Visit

  • The tour is self-guided but volunteers/staff are available to provide additional information.
  • The tour takes approximately 45 minutes.
  • There is stepped access along the tour route.
  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise along the tour route.
  • The tour does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • There are sofas and chairs without armrests at regular intervals along the tour.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the chairs.
  • Some flooring along the tour route is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • Lighting levels are varied throughout the tour route.
  • Two platform lifts provide step-free access to the Ground Floor only.
    Visit information includes free-standing (at a height suitable for a wheelchair user) and hand-held interpretation boards throughout the route. Two tablet devices are available with audio description and British Sign Language.

Stairs

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are two levels of the ground floor, and two levels of the first floor.
  • There are more than 20 steps between floors.
  • The steps are not clearly marked with a handrail that switches sides.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

Exit

  • The exit is located at the end of the visit.
  • There is step-free level access at the exit.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 121cm.
