Summary (Gift Shop)
- View information about opening hours.
- The most accessible entrance has a slight ramp/slope, a manual door and a door permanently held open.
- This entrance is on the right hand side of the shop as you face it from the front.
- There is step-free access once inside.
- There is a member of staff available for help and assistance.
- At the time of our visit the hearing assistance system was working.
- This site is part of the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme.
- There is a Changing Place which can be found in the accessible toilet block off the Laundry Courtyard, next to the gift shop.
- The toilet with adaptations for disabled people surveyed can be found to the left hand side of the Gift Shop.
- This toilet with adaptations for disabled people is approximately 30m from the disabled access entrance to the gift shop.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (Gift Shop)
- From the Visitor Reception, proceed along the pathway and turn right to the Circular Garden.
Turn left around the Circular Garden and into the Laundry Courtyard.
The Gift Shop is on the left.
The route to the area is step-free via slight and steep slopes.
There are bollards on the approach to the Courtyard with a maximum separation of 93cm.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Entrance (Gift Shop - Disabled Access)
- The entrance surveyed is located at the side nearest to the House.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with a handrail on the left going up.
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 105cm.
- There is a second manual door (with an extension leaf) which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 80cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.
Entrance (Gift Shop - Stepped)
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
- There is stepped access at the entrance.
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 97cm.
- There is a second manual door which opens both ways.
- The width of the opening is 94cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.
- There are 2 steps beyond the entrance, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
- Some of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
Gift Shop
- Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
- The majority of aisle widths are under 150cm.
- Some flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
- There is step-free level access around the shop.
- There is background noise here.
- Lighting levels are bright.
- There is step-free level access to the counter.
- The height of the counter is 93cm.
- There is a low level counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- Services/facilities available in the shop include: a portable card machine for payment and a member of staff to provide assistance.
Route to (Book Shop)
- From the Visitor Reception, proceed along the pathway and turn right to the Circular Garden.

- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
- Flooring in the shop is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
- There is step-free level access around the shop.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is step-free level access to the counter.
- The height of the counter is 109cm.
- There is not a low level counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The counter does not have a hearing assistance system.
Entrance (Accessible Toilet Block for Accessible Toilets)
- The entrance surveyed is located off the Laundry Courtyard, on the near end of the accessible toilet block next to the gift shop.
- There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
- The slight slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is a single automatic door which opens towards you.
- The door is activated by a push pad at a suitable height for seated users (between 75cm - 100cm).
- The width of the opening is 107cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- To exit, the door is activated by a push pad at a suitable height for seated users.

- Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.

- The dimensions of the facility are 259cm x 464cm .
- The ceiling height is at a minimum height of 2.4m and there is a clear 200cm x 180cm manoeuvring space in the facility.

- There are lateral transfer spaces on both sides of the seat but the right side is obstructed.
- The transfer space on the right as you face the toilet is 113cm.
- The transfer space on the left as you face the toilet is 116cm.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, vertical grab rails on both sides of the toilet and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
- There is a dropdown rail on both sides of the seat.
- The following have a high colour contrast with their surroundings: all grab rails, all dropdown rails, the floor and the toilet seat.
- The following have a less clear colour contrast with their surroundings: the internal door.
- The toilet seat is 48cm above the floor.
- There is a spatula flush on the right transfer side.
- There is a pull cord emergency alarm but it was tied up at the time of the survey.
- The height of the toilet roll holder is 55cm.
- The toilet has a cistern.

- The facility changing bench is wall mounted and height-adjustable.
- The length of the facility changing bench is 180cm.
- The changing places hoist is powered overhead and covers all areas in the cubicle.

- The wash basin tap type is lever mixer.
- The towel dispenser is 87cm from the floor.
- The hand dryer is 87cm from the floor.
- The facility has: a full length mirror, a waste bin without lid, a nappy/incontinence items bin, a sanitary bin and a privacy screen.
- There is a shelf located where it is reachable for seated and standing users.

- The coat hooks are 105cm and 140cm from the floor.

Toilet with Adaptations (Right Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located straight ahead at the end of the short corridor after the entrance to the accessible toilet block.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- This toilet is approximately 3m from the entrance to the toilet block.
- There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 95cm.
- The door has a lever twist lock.
- Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 167cm x 204cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
- The lateral transfer space is 116cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.

- The width of the opening is 96cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.
Parent and Baby Room / Baby Feeding Room (Accessible Toilet Block)
- There is step-free level access into the room.
- The door is manual, opens inwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 69cm.
- Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
- The height of the baby change table is 85cm.
- The wash basin tap type is sensor.
- There is no seating available in the room.
- There is a toilet in the parent and baby room.
- Waste bins include: a nappy bin and a sanitary bin.
- There are 3 baby change cubicles available.
- There is an ambulant cubicle available with a horizontal grab rail on the right and a vertical grab rail on the left.
