Route to (Visitor Reception from Car Park 2)

  • Turn left out of car park 2 following the path on the left side of the road.
    Cross the road near the main entrance and follow the path through car park 1, crossing the zebra crossing.
    Go past the toilet block at the top of car park 1 and follow the path.
    Take the second right turn and visitor reception will be ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, tarmac, gravel and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and communication cards.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: off-road/all-terrain mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Visitor Reception

  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • The door is automatic, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 150cm.

  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of more than 1.5cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
  • There is room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) throughout the area.

  • There is step-free level access to the counter.

  • The following information describes the picnic area located to the rear of visitor reception.
  • Access into the area is via steps and a steep ramp/slope (which bypasses any steps).
  • The ramp is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are 6 steps, which is unmarked, with handrails on both sides.
  • There are tables.
  • Some chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 68cm.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 68cm.
  • The surface height of the lowest table is 72cm.
  • The surface height of the highest table is 72cm.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles and gravel.

Changing Places (Car Park 1 - Transfer Both Sides)

    • Access into the facility is via a slight ramp/slope.
    • The slope is over 150cm wide.
    • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • A RADAR key is required for access to this facility.
    • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
    • The width of the door opening is 90cm.
    • The door has a locking handle.
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
    • The door has a horizontal grab rail.
    • The dimensions of the facility are 398cm x 300cm.
    • The ceiling height is at a minimum height of 2.4m and there is a clear 200cm x 180cm manoeuvring space in the facility.
    • The facility has a non-slip floor.
  • Toilet Details View
    • There are lateral transfer spaces on both sides of the seat but the left side is obstructed.

  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.

Toilet with Adaptations (Car Park 1 Toilet Block - Accessible - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located to the left after you enter the toilet block at the top of car park 1.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 1m from the toilet block entrance.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 86cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 233cm x 215cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat.
  • The lateral transfer space is 165cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
