Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from the Main Car Park Visitor Reception or Church Lodge Visitor Reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (the Café)
- From the main car park visitor reception, head up the hill through the pleasure garden to the house.
Enter the courtyard to the left of the house, and go through the entrance to the servants' quarters on the left.
Turn right, and follow the corridor to the end.
The entrance to the café is on the left. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, paving stones and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located in the Church Lodge Visitor Reception, within the servants' quarters.
- There is step-free access via lift at the entrance.
- There are 3 steps, which are clearly marked, with a handrail on the right going up.
- The handrail covers all steps.
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 93cm.
- There is a lift which bypasses the steps.
Lift
- This lift is a platform lift.
- The lift overcomes a small level change.
- The lift does have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
- The dimensions of the lift are 94cm x 164cm.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
Eating and Drinking
- This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
- Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: written wall menus.
- Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
- The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, takeaway cutlery, large-handled mugs and large-handled cutlery.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
- There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested, however it was not working at the time of the survey.

- There are tables, bench seats and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests available in the seating area.
