Access Guide
Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from the Welcome Centre. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: an off-road/all-terrain mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- There are charges to borrow an off-road/all-terrain mobility scooter.
- The hire charge is £2.50 per hour.

Route to (Park Cafe)
- From the main car park head towards the welcome centre. Once in the car park before the Welcome Centre, follow the signage left of the pond and up the slope.

- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located on the left hand side of the Park Café building.
- There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
- The steep slope is over 150cm wide, with handrails on both sides.
- This entrance has a buzzer.
- Features at a suitable height for a wheelchair user include: the buzzer.
- There are double automatic doors which opens away from you.
- The doors are activated by a push pad at a suitable height for seated users (between 75cm - 100cm).
- The width of the opening is 170cm.
Eating and Drinking
- This is a café which serves hot and cold snacks.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered and table service (on request only).
- Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: picture wall menus, menu boards and counter menus.
- Wall menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours), but handheld menus are not.

- The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 78cm.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- All of the surface in the picnic area is smooth and even.
Exit
- The exit is located at the rear of the Park Café building.
- There is step-free level access at the exit.
- There is a single automatic door which opens towards you.

Standard Toilet
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- The door is manual, opens by sliding and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 91cm.
- Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.
- The shared standard toilet was surveyed.
- The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 91cm.
- The wash basin tap type is twist/turn.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There are hand dryers.
Toilet with Adaptations
- This toilet is located left from the Park Café entrance.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- This toilet is approximately 5m from the Park Café entrance.
- There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens by sliding and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 91cm.
- The door has a twist lock.
- Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 140cm x 203cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat.
- The lateral transfer space is 100cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- The transfer space on the left as you face the toilet is 100cm.
- There is a lever flush on the non transfer side.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
