About
View
- Engineering Building - Electrical & Electronic Engineering is a very large building with five floors.
- There is one main lift and three main staircases within the building.
- The floors are signed as the basement floor, ground floor, first floor, second floor and third floor.
- The Engineering Building - Mechanical Engineering and SEMS is linked to the Engineering Building - Electrical and Electronic Engineering by a link corridor on floors 1, 2 and 3.
There is stepped access into the link corridor from the Engineering Building - Electrical and Electronic Engineering side.
The Creative Engineering Hub can also be accessed internally from the Engineering Building - Electrical and Electronic Engineering. . - View information on Engineering Building.

Getting Inside
- The approach to the building is step-free and level.
- The Engineering Building - Electrical and Electronic Engineering has three external entrances.
The east entrance and rear entrance provide step-free level access to the ground floor whilst the Bancroft Road entrance provides stepped access to the ground floor.
There are automatic doors at the rear entrance only, and manual doors at the other entrances. - The main entrance is signed as 'Engineering Building - East Entrance'.
The other entrances are not signed.
Getting Around
- There is step-free level access throughout the majority of the building on all floors.
- On the basement floor, there is a slight slope up to the Q Media Studios with handrails on both sides.
- Between the first and second floors off the main staircase, there are three clearly marked steps with handrails on both sides up to offices E201-E208.
- Between the second and third floors off the main staircase, there are four clearly marked steps with handrails on both sides up to offices E301-E308.
- Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth with some having a shiny finish, or carpeted and smooth.
- There are resting areas on the basement and ground floors with a mixture of seating.
- Overhead and wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
- There are manual doors along circulation routes throughout the building.

- There are 2 toilets with adaptations.
- Toilets with adaptations are located on the ground floor next to both the East Entrance and the Bancroft Road entrance.
- The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
- The male step-free toilet facilities are located ahead as you enter the Bancroft Road entrance, and on the third floor off the main staircase.
- The gender inclusive step-free toilet facilities are located on the third floor off the main staircase.
- The female toilet facilities are located on the first floor off the main staircase.
- The male toilet facilities are located on the first and second floor off the main staircase.
Entrance (East Entrance)
- This entrance is located at the front of the building.
- The entrance area is clearly signed.
- There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.

- There are double manual doors at this entrance.
- The doors open towards you.

Lift
- The lift surveyed is located to the left as you enter the east entrance.
- The distance from the east entrance is 14m.
- The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
- B - 3 are accessed by this lift.
- The lift door has a high visual contrast.
- The lift does not have a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
- The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
- All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The lift door opening width is 86cm.
- The internal dimensions of the lift are 103cm (width) x 135cm (depth).
- The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
- All of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- Internally the lift has: a mirror to aid reversing, a hearing assistance alarm system, a visual floor indicator and an audible announcer.
- Lighting levels were uneven at the time of the survey, with pools of light and shade.
Stairs (Main)
- The stairs surveyed are located to the left as you enter the east entrance.
- The basement to floor 3 can be accessed by these stairs.
- There are 20+ steps between floors.
- The steps have faded markings and have handrails on both sides.
- The handrails are easy to grip.
- The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
- The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
- The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
- The height of the highest step is 17cm.
- The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
