Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free and level.
  • The Library has two entrances. Both entrances provide sloped access (steep) to the ground floor of the library.
    There are double automatic doors available at the main entrance, and a single automatic door at the Attlee Square entrance.
  • The entrances are signed as 'Library' and the 'Attlee Square Entrance'.
  • The Library entrance provides step-free sloped access (steep) to the reception on the ground floor.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth or carpeted and smooth. Some surfaces have a shiny finish.
  • There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.

  • The reception has a television and patterned/distracting backgrounds.
  • There is a clearly signed portable hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.

  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.

  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is not between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 14cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.

Stairs (Floors 2 - 4)

  • The stairs surveyed are located on floor 2, to the rear of the building.
  • There is a single manual door to access the stairwell.
  • Floors 2 - 4 can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 20+ steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
