View
- The Library is a very large building with five floors.
- There are two main lifts and two main staircases within the building.
- The floors are signed as floor G, floor 1, floor 2, floor 3 and floor 4.
- One of the lifts only operates between floors G - 2. The lift that has been surveyed operates between all floors.

- The venue does not have its own car park.
- The nearest parking is located in the Staff Car Park.

Getting Inside
- The approach to the building is step-free and level.
- The Library has two entrances. Both entrances provide sloped access (steep) to the ground floor of the library.
There are double automatic doors available at the main entrance, and a single automatic door at the Attlee Square entrance. - The entrances are signed as 'Library' and the 'Attlee Square Entrance'.
- The Library entrance provides step-free sloped access (steep) to the reception on the ground floor.
Getting Around
- There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors.
- Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth or carpeted and smooth. Some surfaces have a shiny finish.
- There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
- Overhead and wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
- There are manual doors along circulation routes and to access stairwells.

- There are 5 toilets with adaptations.
- Toilets with adaptations are located on all floors excluding floor 2.
- The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
- The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located on all floors excluding floor 2.
- The gender inclusive step-free toilet facilities are located on floor 1.
Entrance
- This entrance is located off Library Square.
- The approach to the entrance has uneven surfaces.
- The entrance area is clearly signed.
- There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
- There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
- The slope has a steep gradient.
- There are double automatic doors at this entrance.
- The doors open by sliding.
- The width of the opening is 170cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
- The doors have a low visual contrast.

Reception
- The reception is located ahead as you enter the library.
- The distance from the entrance is 8m.

- The height of the reception desk is 112cm.
- There is a lowered section at the desk.
- The height of the lowered section is 77cm.
- The reception has a television and patterned/distracting backgrounds.
- There is a clearly signed portable hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- The height of the touchscreen display ranges from 104cm to 125cm from the floor.
- There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.
- The flooring is shiny.
- Lighting levels were uneven at the time of the survey, with pools of light and shade.
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre in the seating area (150cm x 150cm).

Library
- There is step-free level access throughout the library.
- Access throughout the library may include manual doors.
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
- There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.
- Some flooring is shiny.
- The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
- Seating available in the library includes: chairs with armrests, chairs without armrests, armchairs, sofas and benches.
- Furniture available in the library includes: tables, coffee tables, desks, height adjustable desks and booths.
- Some chairs and tables are fixed.
- Some surface heights are suitable for wheelchair users.
- The clear underside space of some surfaces is suitable for wheelchair users.
- Lighting levels vary due to the size of the space.

Lift
- The lift surveyed is located ahead and to the right after passing through the security barriers.
- The distance from the entrance is 42m.
- The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
- Floors G - 4 are accessed by this lift.
- The lift door has a high visual contrast.
- The lift does not have a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
- The weight limit for the lift is 1150kg.
- The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
- All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The lift door opening width is 100cm.
- The internal dimensions of the lift are 115cm (width) x 200cm (depth).

- The handrails are easy to grip.
- The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
- The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
- The height of the steps is not between 15cm and 18cm.

- The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.

Stairs (Floors 2 - 4)
- The stairs surveyed are located on floor 2, to the rear of the building.
- There is a single manual door to access the stairwell.
- Floors 2 - 4 can be accessed by these stairs.
- There are 20+ steps between floors.
- The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
- The handrails are easy to grip.
- The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
- The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
- The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
- The height of the highest step is 17cm.
- The depth of the steps is between 30cm and 45cm.
