Overview

Getting Inside

  • There is a level approach to QM Social.
  • There are three entrances into QM Social.
    An accessible entrance consisting of a manual door accessed by slight ramp which bypasses steps.
    There is also a stepped entrance with manual doors at the front of the building.
    There is a manual entrance to the rear of QM Social from the ground floor of the Francis Bancroft Building.
  • The main entrance is signed as QM Social.
    The other entrances are not signed. .

Entrance (External Step-Free Entrance)

  • This entrance is located at the top of the Bancroft building main entrance ramp.
  • The entrance area is not clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The ramp has a slight gradient.
  • The ramp is over 150cm wide with handrails on both sides.
  • The ramp bypasses the steps.
  • There are 3 steps with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The steps are unmarked.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 17cm.
  • The depth of the steps is between 30cm and 45cm.
  • There is a single automatic door at this entrance.
  • The door opens towards you.
  • There is a push pad at a height of 110cm.
  • The width of the opening is 90cm.
  • The door has a high visual contrast.
  • There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 110cm.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Eating and Drinking

  • Order and Payment View
    • Items are purchased via vending machines with the highest part of the controls at a height of 150cm and the highest shelf 160cm or via a self service coffee machine with the highest part of the touchscreen 153cm. .
  • Seating Area View
    • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
    • The following areas have stepped access: There are two 20cm steps to access the highest part of the seating area. .
    • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is space for an assistance dog to rest.
    • The flooring is shiny and patterned.
    • The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
    • Seating available in this area includes: chairs without armrests, sofas and benches.
    • Furniture available in this area includes: tables.
    • The surface height of some of the tables is suitable for wheelchair users.
    • The clear height under some of the tables is suitable for wheelchair users.
    • There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.
    • Lighting levels vary due to the size of the space.
    • This service is not staffed.
      There is an uncovered external seating area.

Toilet with Adaptations (Shared - Right Hand Transfer)

    • The toilet surveyed is located to the rear of QM Social.
    • The distance from the external step-free entrance is 20m.
    • The most accessible route to the toilet has step-free level access.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
    • The door opens outwards and has a high visual contrast.
    • The width of the door opening is 90cm.
    • The door has a twist lock.
    • Internally the door has a high visual contrast.
    • There is a grab rail on the internal door with a high visual contrast.
  • Dimensions and Features View
