Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free and level at the main entrance.
  • The approach to the building is step-free via a steep slope at the accessible entrance.
  • The Garrod Building has two entrances.
    The main entrance provides stepped access to the ground floor whilst the accessible entrance provides ramped access to the ground floor.
    There is a key card activated single automatic door at the accessible entrance and double automatic doors at the main entrance.
  • Both entrances are signed as Garrod Building.

Getting Around (Floors B - 2)

  • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of the building on all floors.
  • There are nine clearly marked steps to the recording studio on the basement floor.
  • On floors 1 and 2 there is a slight ramp in the corridor leading to the seminar rooms on each floor.
    The floor 1 ramp bypasses three steps at a height of 20cm each, whilst the floor 2 ramp bypasses four steps at a height of 15cm each.
  • On floors 1 and 2, there are steps to overcome at the north-east corner of the building.
    On floor 1 there are three steps at a height of 20cm leading to the east corridor, and on floor 2 there are four steps at a height of 16cm leading to the Institute of Dentistry Clinical Skills.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish, or carpeted and smooth.
  • There are resting areas in ground floor circulation areas.
  • Overhead and wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
  • There are manual doors along circulation routes throughout the building and to access stairwells.

Getting Around (Floor 3)

  • There is step-free level access on the majority of the south side of floor 3 but not on the north side.
  • The south side of floor 3 is accessed by the main lift.
    The north side of floor 3 is only accessible by taking the main lift to floor 2 and then using the north staircase.
  • There are three steps at a height of 20cm to access seminar room GA-304 on the south side of floor 3.
  • On the north side of the floor 3, there are steps along the prayer rooms corridor.
    There are four steps at a height of 16cm to the prayer rooms, and three steps at a height of 22cm down to both the washroom and office GA-314.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth with some having a shiny finish.
  • There are no resting areas in circulation or lobby areas.
  • Wayfinding signage is limited on floor 3.
  • There are manual doors in circulation and lobby areas on floor 3.
