Getting Inside
- The approach to the majority of entrances is even.
- There are 8 entrances into the building, 3 of which provide either step-free level access or access via a very slight slope. The other entrances are are accessed by slight ramps.
- The main entrance has automatic doors as do the 2 ramped entrances into the 1850 area. The other doors are manual.
- The entrance linking into J Block ground floor from the library ground floor has permanently held open doors.
- The majority of entrances are not signed.
- The main entrance has a list of facilities located to the right of the entrance. The main entrance to the 1850 area is signed as The 1850.
- The main entrance has a set of double automatic doors that open towards you and can be accessed via a very slight ramp.
- The most accessible entrance leading directly into the 1850 area is located towards the front right of the building and consists of 1 set of automatic double doors followed by a set of manual double doors. There is a slight ramp on approach which bypasses steps.
- There is a similar entrance located nearby into the same part of the 1850 area.
- There is also an alternative entrance into the 1850 area located near to the main entrance into J Block which has a level approach and manual doors.
- There is a single manual door entrance leading into the front of the Dolce Vita Cafe in block J.
- There are also multiple sets of doors leading into the Dolce Vita Cafe, J Block and the 1850 Bar from the terrace area to the rear of the building.
- The terrace area is accessed either via a slight ramp or steps.
Getting Around
- There is step free access throughout J Block and 1850.
- There is a set of four 14cm steps to access the steps on the first floor.
- The steps can be transformed into a lift.
- The floor surfaces in the circulation route are mixture of carpet and some which are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
