Access Guide
Access To
- Room 0.01 Event Space is in the centre of the building on level 0, to the left as you exit lift 003, opposite the south entrance.
- View information on Edinburgh Futures Institute (opens new tab) .
- The most accessible route has step-free level access and manual doors.
- There is written text signage on or near the entrance.
- There are double manual doors which open towards you.
- One of the doors was locked at the time of the survey.
- The width of the opening is 102cm.
- The doors have a high visual contrast.
Teaching
- There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
- The following areas have stepped access: tiered seating, raised bench seating and side galleries.
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
- There is a fixed hearing assistance system which is not clearly signed.
- The hearing assistance system could not be tested at the time of the survey.
- Some flooring is patterned.
- Floor coverings are even with no trip hazards.
- The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
- Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
- Lighting levels are adjustable.
- There is tiered seating with no handrails at the steps.
- There are no designated spaces for wheelchair users.
- There is space for an assistance dog to rest.
- Seating available in the room includes: chairs with armrests, chairs without armrests and benches.
- Furniture available in the room includes: high tables and long tables.
- Some chairs are fixed.
- Some surface heights are suitable for wheelchair users.
- The clear underside space of some surfaces is suitable for wheelchair users.
- The height of the speaker's desk/table is 93cm.
- The speaker's desk/table is not height adjustable.
- This is a lecture theatre and event space.
Stackable seats at the front may be removed to form an open space.
Benches at the side of the room are fixed.
