Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via very slight slopes.
  • The step-free approach to the building is from George Square.
    There is ramped and lift access via the Lower Ground Teaching Hub from the parking area on Windmill Lane.
  • 40 George Square - Lecture Theatres has three entrances on the ground floor. All three give step-free ramped access to the ground floor.
    There are double automatic doors at entrances A and C.
    Entrance B is ordinarily locked.
  • The entrances are signed Lecture Theatre A, Lecture Theatre B, and Lecture Theatre C.
  • Entrance A - Accessible Entrance provides step-free ramped access to the lecture theatres foyer on the ground floor.
  • There is step-free level access via lift from the 40 George Square Lower Ground Teaching Hub.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors.
  • At Entrances A and C there are 3 clearly marked steps down, without handrails, as you enter.
    These steps are overcome by slight ramps that are steep in parts, with a handrail on the left going down from Entrance A, and on the right going down from Entrance C.
  • Access to Lecture Theatres A, B, and C is by 13 clearly marked steps into each room. There are 2 entrances per room.
    The steps to the left entrance in each case may be overcome by a stairlift.
  • Access to and from the lower ground floor is via stairs or a standard lift.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
  • There is a seat without handrails and table outside Lecture Theatre A.
  • There are manual doors in the lobby areas and into the lecture theatres.

  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide with a handrail on the right going up.
  • The ramp bypasses the steps.
  • There are 3 steps with no handrails.
  • The steps have some clear markings.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 18cm.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located to the left as you enter, via entrance A.
  • The distance from entrance A is 30m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has a steep ramp or slope.
  • The ground and lower ground floors are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
