Overview

Getting Inside

  • There is step-free access on the approach to Doorway 3 main and side entrances.
    There is a very slight slope running along the length of the Old Medical School Courtyard, in front of Doorway 3 main entrance.
    The approach to the main entrance has bollards with visual identification bands.
  • The building has 2 main entrances.
    The main entrance provides ramped access to the ground floor of the building via automatic doors.
    The side entrance provides stepped access to the ground floor of the building via a manual door.
  • The main entrance is signed as Doorway 3.
    The side entrance has no signposting.
  • Teaching rooms 10 to 14 within the Biomedical Teaching Organisation department have stepped access from the main circulation routes.
    This staircase can be avoided by using a linked entrance in the Doorway 4 building.
    This link entrance has a security code to enter. Please contact the Biomedical Teaching Organisation reception in advance for access through this entrance.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level throughout the majority of the building.
  • There is stepped access to teaching rooms 10-14 and the Human Anatomy Lab within the Biomedical Teaching Organisation department.
    Step-free level access to teaching rooms 10-14 can be achieved by using a linked entrance within the Doorway 4 building.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
  • There are resting areas in some circulation routes and lobbies within this building.

  • Wayfinding signage is provided throughout this building.

Entrance (Doorway 3 Main Entrance)

  • The lift door has a low visual contrast.

  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 105cm.
  • There is an intercom at a height of 135cm.
  • There are double manual doors at this entrance, however one door is locked.
  • The doors open away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 76cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.
  • This entrance can be avoided by using the lift.

Reception (Biomedical Teaching Organisation)

  • The reception is located on the first floor of the Doorway 3 section of the building, to the right and ahead as you exit the lift.

Stairs (Biomedical Teaching Organisation Internal Stairs)

  • The stairs surveyed are located within the Biomedical area, on the first floor, right as you exit the lift, at the end of the main corridor and then to the right.
  • The first floor, the second floor and the Anatomy Teaching Laboratory can be accessed by these stairs.

  • The handrail is not easy to grip.
  • The handrail covers the flight of stairs throughout its length.
