Overview

The approach to the building is step-free level, but it is situated on a road with a steep gradient, and whose pavement has uneven surfaces.
The approaches from both the nearest site/campus car parks to the main entrance involve steep ramps and uneven surfaces.
48 Pleasance has 1 entrance, which provides ramped and stepped access (via a slight ramp and single step) to the ground floor of the building.
There is a set of double, permanently held open doors (with one leaf locked), followed by a second single manual door at this entrance.
The main entrance is signed as "48 Pleasance - Scottish Student Sport, Scottish Volleyball, Edinburgh University Sports Union, Playerlayer, University of Edinburgh Sport Club Room".

There is step-free level access on all the floors themselves; however all upper floors are accessible via stairs only, given that the building has no lift.
Floor surfaces along circulation routes are comprised of shiny vinyl flooring and low pile carpet.
There are no seating areas in any circulation areas of the building.
Wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
There are no manual doors in any circulation areas of the building - the only manual doors in the building are for access to individual rooms.

General Building Information View

Toilet Facilities View
- The shared toilet facilities are located on the third floor, to the right at the top of the stairs.

Car Park View
- The car park is located in front of the Pleasance Sports Complex and Gym main entrance.
- The car park is open air/surface.
- The car park surface consists of tarmac and cobbles.
- There is 1 designated Blue Badge parking bay available.
- The Blue Badge bay has faded markings.
- The surveyed Blue Badge parking bay dimensions are 241cm (width) x 480cm (depth).
- There are no hatched/marked zones.
- The nearest designated bay is 32m from entrance to 48 Pleasance (route shown in the photographs).
- The most accessible route from the Blue Badge parking has steep ramps or slopes and uneven surfaces.
- There is a dropped kerb with tactile paving from the designated Blue Badge parking.

- This car park is for Blue Badge holders and permit holders only.
- Parking is not free for all users.
- Parking is free for Blue Badge holders.
- Clearly presented parking signs are available.

- Blue Badge holders may park for free but must still apply for and be granted a permit in order to use this or any other car park on the University's estate.
Drop-off Point View
- There is not a designated drop-off point available.
On-street Parking View
- On-street standard parking is available .
- Standard on-street parking is available in marked strips on East Adam Street and Pleasance.

The stairs surveyed are located straight ahead as you enter the building through the main entrance.
Floors G, 1, 2 and 3 can be accessed by these stairs.
There are 20+ steps between floors.
The steps are clearly marked and have a handrail on the left going up.
The handrail is not easy to grip.
The handrail does not cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
The handrail does not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
The height of the highest step is 16cm.
The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
