Eating and Drinking (Bar - Upper Ground Floor)

  • Location and Service View
    • This area has a bar where food and drink can be ordered, staff who can provide assistance with ordering and numerous seating options.
    • Full table service is available on an online app.
    • Menus are handheld, digital and online.
    • The following dietary requirements can be catered for: gluten free, dairy free, lactose free, nut allergy, vegetarian and vegan.
    • The following are available: drinking straws, takeaway cups and takeaway cutlery.
    • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • Order and Payment View
    • The bar was surveyed.
    • The counter is located at the rear of the venue.
    • There is step-free level access to the counter.
    • The height of the counter is 107cm.
    • There is not a lowered section at the counter.
    • The counter has patterned/distracting backgrounds which may affect the ability of someone to lip read.
  • Seating Area View
    • There is step-free level access throughout the seating area.
    • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is space for an assistance dog to rest.
    • Some flooring is shiny.
    • The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
    • Seating available in this area includes: chairs without armrests, armchairs, benches and high stools.
    • Furniture available in this area includes: tables, high tables and booths.
    • Some chairs are fixed.
    • The surface height of some of the tables is suitable for wheelchair users.

Lift (Main)

  • The lift surveyed is located at the rear right of the building on the upper ground floor, through the bar.
  • The distance from the main entrance is 58m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has a steep ramp or slope and automatic doors.
  • The upper ground and first floor are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a low visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a medium visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 145cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 165cm (width) x 227cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings and a medium visual contrast.
  • All of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • Internally the lift has: a visual floor indicator.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
  • There is a ramp on the route from the entrance to gain access to the upper ground floor.
  • A member of staff needs to be notified to use this lift.

Stairs (Main)

  • The stairs surveyed are located to the right as you enter Potterrow.
  • There are double manual doors to access the stairwell.
  • The lower ground, upper ground and first floors can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 20 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 17cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels were uneven at the time of the survey, with pools of light and shade.
  • There are further stairs towards the front of the building between the upper ground and first floors.

Eating and Drinking (Hangar 5 - First Floor)

  • Location and Access View
    • Hangar 5 is located on the first floor of Edinburgh University Students' Association (EUSA), Potterrow, ahead from the main lift.
    • The most accessible route has a lift and a steep ramp or slope.
    • There is step-free level access into this area.
    • There are double manual doors with a medium visual contrast.
    • One of the doors was locked at the time of the survey.
    • The locked door can be opened on request .
    • The doors open towards you.
    • The width of the opening is 82cm.
  • Service View
    • This area has a bar where drinks can be ordered, staff who can provide assistance with ordering and numerous seating options.
    • Full table service is available.
    • The following are available: drinking straws and takeaway cups.
    • There is not a hearing assistance system.

    • The counter is located round to the right as you enter.
    • There is step-free level access to the counter.
