- The Faraday Building is a medium size building with five floors.
- There is one lift and two main staircases within the building.
- The floors are signed Ground, First, Second, Third and Fourth Floor.
This is slightly different inside the lifts where control buttons are marked as 0 instead of Ground and 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively. - There is restricted access to and from the ground floor from the centre staircase.
- There is not a toilet with adaptations available.

Getting Inside
- The approach to the building is step-free via a slight ramp.
- The Faraday Building has two entrances, and four link entrances from adjacent buildings.
The Faraday main entrance (accessible entrance) provides step-free access with a slight ramp. - The entrances are all signed with the building name.
- The accessible entrance gives access to the lift on the Ground Floor, which provides step-free level access to the First to Fourth Floors.
The accessible entrance also provides the main accessible access to the Fleeming Jenkin Building and Hudson Beare Building. - The Faraday secondary entrance to the rear of the lobby has a slight ramp and a manual door.
The Ground Floor link entrance from the Hudson Beare building is step-free and level with an automatic door.
The Ground Floor link entrance from the Fleeming Jenkin building is step-free with a slight ramp and automatic doors.
The First Floor link entrance across the link bridge from the Fleeming Jenkin building and the Alrick building is step-free with a slight ramp and automatic doors.
The First floor link entrance at the rear of the building from the Alrick building is step-free with a steep ramp and manual doors. - The rear entrance to the Hudson-Beare building is stepped only. There is a link entrance to the rear of the Hudson Beare building with a slight ramp and manual doors from the Sanderson Building.
There are steep slopes on the approach to the secondary entrance from Max Born Crescent.
There are also steep slopes on approach to the entrances to the Alrick Building and the Fleeming Jenkin Building which both have link entrances to the Faraday Building.
Getting Around
- There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors.
- Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a patterned and/or shiny finish.
- There are no resting areas in circulation or lobby areas.
There is a meeting room and seminar room on the First Floor.
There is a study area off the Second Floor corridor. - Wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
- There are some manual doors to access corridors from the main stairwell and lift well on the Second, Third and Fourth floors.
There are manual doors to access corridors from the centre stairwell on all floors.
Access to and from the centre stairwell at ground floor level is restricted.

- Parking is not free for all users.
- Parking is free for Blue Badge holders.
- Clearly presented parking signs are not available.

- Staff and students who have had their disability recognised by the issue of a Blue Badge or an EU Model Parking Card do not pay for parking at the University.
However, they must still apply for a valid permit for the areas in which you wish to park.

- The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide with handrails on both sides.
- The ramp bypasses the steps.
- There are 4 steps with handrails on both sides.
- The handrails are easy to grip.
- The handrail covers the flight of stairs throughout its length.
- The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
- The steps are unmarked.
- The steps have tactile markings at the top and bottom.
- The height of the step is between 15cm and 18cm.
- The height of the highest step is 15cm.
- The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
- There is a key pad at a height of 94cm.
- The key pad is for out of hours working only.
- There is a single automatic door at this entrance.
