Getting Inside

The main entrance is signed as The University of Edinburgh - School of Biological Sciences, Institute of Cell Biology, Institute of Quantitive Biology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, UK Centre for Mammalian Synthetic Biology, XY Café.
The automatic door at the main entrance has writing saying Accessible Entrance on the door.
The other entrances are not signed. - Both the rear Accessible Entrance and the main entrance provide step-free access to the reception foyer on the ground floor.
- The main entrance has a slight slope on entrance and a push pad automatic door that requires a key card to activate as well as a revolving manual door.
- The main entrance and rear accessible entrances are not in use out of hours.
Getting Around
- There is step-free access throughout the building on all floors.
- In the entrance foyer to the rear of the reception there is a slight ramp to access the rest of the building. This ramp bypasses 4 steps.
Immediately upon entering into the restricted area there is another slight slope. - Access beyond the foyer area of the building is restricted and requires a key card.
- G.27 and the area accessed by the ramped out of hours entrance does link into the rest of the ground floor without travelling up to the ground mezzanine floor.
- The surfaces in the circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
- There is seating available in the foyer area with a mixture of seating.
- There is wall mounted and overhead wayfinding signage provided throughout the building.
