Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building has step-free level access from Colin Maclaurin Road.
  • Sanderson Building has three entrances, two entrances provide step-free level access. There are double automatic doors at the main entrance and double manual doors at the other two.
  • The main entrance is signed Engineering, however the other two are not signed.
  • The main entrance gives direct access to the lift on the ground floor, which provides step-free level access to the first floor.
  • The side entrance has level access and manual doors. The composite lab entrance has a steep ramp and manual doors.
  • If you are entering the building via the composite lab entrance there is stepped access to the rest of the building once inside.

Getting Around

  • It is possible to bypass most of the steps once inside the building but there are some narrow corridors and doorways.
  • There is stepped access to Lecture Theatre 1 and Teaching Labs G.20 and G.21 as detailed below. This can be overcome via the link corridor from Hudson Beare Building.
  • Floor surfaces along most routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish. However on the first floor there is carpet along some corridors.
  • The are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
  • The building does not have wayfinding signage.
  • There are manual doors in some corridor and lobby areas.

    • There is 1 toilet with adaptations.

  • There are 7 steps with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The steps are clearly marked.
  • The steps have tactile markings at the top and bottom.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
