- The Carys Bannister Building is a large building with five floors.
- There is one main lift and one main staircase.
- The floors are signed G, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

- The car park for the Carys Bannister Building was fully occupied by contractors at the time of the surveyors visit (May 2024) so is not in use.
Two temporary Blue Badge Bays have been created in the staff car park, which is next to the original Blue Badge Bays.

- Carys Bannister Building is open from 08.00 to18:00 term time and 09.00 to 17.00 out of term.
Getting Inside
- The approach to the building is step-free and level.
- There is a push pad activated, single automatic door available at the entrance (accessible entrance) with the alternative being manual revolving doors.
There are some bollards, with a high colour contrast, on the approach to the building. - The main entrance is not named (signed as Carys Bannister Building).
- The accessible entrance and the alternative revolving door provide step-free level access to the reception foyer on the ground floor.
- There is an alternative entrance located on Dover Street to the side of the building, for staff and students.
The entrance on Dover Street is step-free and level access.
Getting Around
- There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors.
- Floor surfaces along circulation routes are hard and smooth, or carpeted and smooth.
- There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
- Wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
- There are manual doors in some corridors which are permanently held open.

- Toilets with adaptations are located on every floor, to the left of the seating area.
- The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
- Only the toilet with adaptations on the second floor is left hand transfer.
- The male and female toilet facilities are located to the left of the seating area on every floor.

Entrance (Main Entrance)
- This entrance is located to the front of the building.
- The approach to the entrance has bollards.

- There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.

- There is a single automatic door at this entrance.
- The door opens towards you.
- There is a push pad at a height of 101cm.
- The width of the opening is 104cm.
- The door has a low visual contrast.
- There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 107cm.
- The push pad is key card access.
Entrance (Staff and Student Entrance)
- This entrance is located to the right hand side of the building on Dover Street.
- The entrance area is clearly signed.
- There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There are double manual doors at this entrance.
- The doors open away from you.
- The width of the opening is 156cm.
- The doors have a low visual contrast.
Reception
- The reception is located ahead from the main entrance.
- The distance from the main entrance is 9m.
- The most accessible route to reception has automatic doors.
- There is step-free level access to reception.
- The height of the reception desk is 107cm.
- There is a lowered section at the desk.
- The height of the lowered section is 76cm.
- There is not a hearing assistance system.

- The lift door has a high visual contrast.
- The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
- The external lift control buttons have a low visual contrast.
- All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The lift door opening width is 89cm.
- The internal dimensions of the lift are 108cm (width) x 140cm (depth).
- The internal lift control buttons have Braille markings, a medium visual contrast and tactile markings.
