Accommodation Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via slight slopes.
  • There is 1 entrance at the front of the main building and 1 at the rear in the courtyard, and 2 entrances to The Lodge.
    All entrances are stepped with manual doors.

    There are 2 marked steps with no handrails to access the corridor leading to the common room.
    There are 5 steps with handrails both sides to access the library.
    There are 2 steps on Schuster B to access rooms D8 and D9.
    There is a small step in the bathroom in Schuster B.
    There is a slight slope to access the rear right stairs in Schuster.
  • Floor surfaces along circulation routes are hard and smooth or carpeted and smooth.
    There are some floor surfaces which are patterned or have a shiny finish.
  • Limited wayfinding signage is provided on all levels.

Entrance

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building.

  • The steps are unmarked.

Stairs

  • The stairs surveyed are located on the right as you enter through the main entrance.
  • The Basement, A, B and C floors can be accessed by these stairs.

  • The steps have low visual contrast markings and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrail covers the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.

Eating and Drinking (Dining Hall)

  • Location and Service View
    • The dining hall is located on the far right of Schuster A.
    • This area has a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
    • Full table service is not available.
    • Menus are wall-mounted and available on a board.
    • The following dietary requirements can be catered for: gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan.
    • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • Order and Payment View
    • The service counter was surveyed.
    • The counter is located ahead on the right as you enter the dining hall.
    • There is step-free level access to the counter.
    • The height of the counter is 92cm.
    • There is not a lowered section at the counter.
    • The height of the tray rail is 89cm.
  • Seating Area View
    • There is step-free level access throughout the seating area.
    • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).

Entrance (Chapel)

  • There are steps and a ramp on the access between St Anselm Hall and the Chapel. At the time of the survey (31/07/24) this access was out of use due to building works.

Chapel

  • The Chapel is located at the rear of St Anselm Hall.
  • There is step-free level access to the majority of the Chapel.
  • There is a step to access the altar at the front and to the seating area at the rear.
  • The seating is bench seating.
  • The flooring is hard and smooth with a shiny finish.
  • The lighting levels are low with glare and not adjustable.
  • The contrast between the floor and walls is high.

Library

  • The Library is located in Schuster A at the rear.
  • There is a single manual door 75cm wide which opens inwards
  • The internal and external door contrast is high.
  • The floor surface is carpet and smooth.
  • The lighting levels are low.
  • The contrast between the walls and floor is high.
  • The seating is chairs with and without armrests and sofas.
  • There are tables and coffee tables available.
  • The surface height of the tables is 77cm and the underside is 69cm.
  • There are adjustable computer monitors available.
