Getting to (Spa and Gym)

Entrance

  • The entrance to the spa is located at the rear of the building adjacent to the Faros Pool.
  • There is no step-free access at the entrance to the building.
  • The ramp is very steep, over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are 3 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • The ramp does not overcome the step.
  • There are manual doors at the entrance, which opens towards you.
  • The width of the door opening is 136cm.
  • The ramp overcomes the first 2 steps, but the third step is in the doorway.

Lift

  • The lift is located to the left as you enter the building.
  • The floors that can be accessed from this lift are -1, G, 1.
  • This lift is a standard lift.
  • Externally the lift has: controls at a recommended height (between 90cm - 120cm), buttons with a high colour contrast to the surroundings, tactile markings, Braille markings and a door with a high colour contrast to the surroundings.
  • The lift does have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
  • The dimensions of the lift are 106cm x 136cm.
  • Internally the lift has; a mirror to aid reversing, buttons with a high colour contrast to the surroundings, tactile markings, a visual floor indicator, controls at a recommended height (between 90cm - 120cm) and Braille markings.

Stairs

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are -1, G, 1.
  • There are 15+ steps between floors with resting points (landings).
  • The stairs are not clearly marked and have a handrail on the left going down.

Reception

  • There is step-free level access to reception.
  • The reception has glazed screens and patterned backgrounds which may affect the ability of someone to lip read.
  • The reception desk is too high for a wheelchair user.
  • The reception does not have a hearing assistance system.
  • There is hard flooring.
  • The flooring is not shiny or patterned.
  • There are armchairs, chairs without armrests and coffee tables available in this reception area.
  • There is space for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre in the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the reception area.
  • There is background noise which varies depending on the time of day.

Changing Area

  • The facilities available within the changing area include; standard changing rooms/cubicles and standard showers.
  • The female changing area was surveyed, and there are also male changing areas available.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast.
  • The width of the door opening is 98cm.
  • There is hard flooring.
  • The flooring is shiny.
  • The seating in the changing area includes: bench seats.
  • The changing area includes: standard lockers.
  • The changing area has: standard showers with no step-free access.
  • The showers have a fixed height shower head.
  • Toilet facilities include: a standard toilet with stepped access.

Gym

  • There is step-free level access into the gym.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a low colour contrast.
  • The gym is not staffed.
  • There is no emergency alarm.
  • There is clear manoeuvring space between equipment (150cm x 150cm).
  • Equipment includes cable resistance machines and free weights.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise.
  • The gym does not have a hearing assistance system.

Swimming Pool (Indoor Pool)

  • This is an indoor relaxation pool.
  • There is step-free level access into the pool area.
  • There are 6 steps with a handrail on the left going up.
  • There is step-free level access around the whole pool.
  • The pool is staffed at peak times only.
  • Seating around the pool includes: sun loungers.
  • Additional facilities include: a jacuzzi.
  • The flooring is hard.

Treatment Room

  • There is step-free level access into the room.
  • There is a manual door which opens inwards and has a high colour contrast.
  • The room does not have an unobstructed turning space (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is hard flooring.
  • The flooring is not shiny or patterned.
  • There is a fixed treatment table.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system in the room.
  • There may be background noise.
  • Lighting levels are low in this area.
  • The spa has individual and couple's treatment rooms.

Toilet

  • The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • The toilet door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The wash basin tap type is lever mixer.
