Access Guide
Getting to (Sports bar)
- The Sports Bar is on level 1 of the Tennis and Sports Centre.
- The most accessible route has a lift, slight ramps/slopes, a steep ramp/slope (which bypasses any steps) and automatic doors.
Lift
- The lift is located ahead as you enter the Sports Centre.
- The floors that can be accessed from this lift are -2, -1, 0, 1, 2.
- This lift is a standard lift.
- Externally the lift has: a door with a medium colour contrast to the surroundings, buttons with a low colour contrast to the surroundings, controls at a recommended height (between 90cm - 120cm) and tactile markings.
- The lift door opening width is 106cm.
- The dimensions of the lift are 121cm x 189cm.
- Internally the lift has; a mirror to aid reversing, controls at a recommended height (between 90cm - 120cm), tactile markings, buttons with a high colour contrast to the surroundings and a visual floor indicator.
Stairs
- The floors which are accessible by stairs are -2, -1, 0, 1, 2.
- There are 15+ steps between floors with resting points (landings).
- The stairs are not clearly marked and have no handrails.
Entrance
- The entrance to the bar is located on the second floor of the Tennis and Sports centre.
- The entrance to the bar is accessed by lift.

- There is a lift which bypasses the steps.
- There is step-free level access via lift at the entrance to the bar.
- There is a manual door at the entrance, which opens both ways.
- The width of the door opening is 127cm.
- The door has a high colour contrast.
Bar
- The bar serves drinks.
- Menus are handheld.
- The following are available: drinking straws.
- There is no hearing assistance system.
- There may be background noise.
- None of the counters are at the recommended height for wheelchair users (between 76cm - 85cm).
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- The flooring inside is hard.
- Some flooring is shiny.
- Lighting levels are good in this bar.
Seating
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- There is space for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre in the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
- The seating includes: bench seats, high stools, chairs with armrests and chairs without armrests.
- Some of the tables are suitable for wheelchair users (between 70cm - 80cm and free from obstruction).
- The flooring inside is hard.
- There may be background noise.
- Lighting levels are good in this seating area.
Toilet with Adaptations for Disabled People (Left Hand Transfer)
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- There is tactile and pictorial signage on or near the toilet door.
- The toilet door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 85cm.
- The toilet door has a twist lock.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 195cm x 182cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the toilet as you look at it, but it is obstructed.
- The lateral transfer space is 130cm (from the side of the toilet pan to the wall).
- There is a push button flush on the wall above the cistern.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the non-transfer side.
- There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
- The following fixtures cannot be reached from the toilet seat: the toilet roll holder, the wash basin, the soap dispenser and towel dispenser.
- The following fixtures are at the recommended height: the toilet seat (48cm), the soap dispenser (between 80cm - 100cm) and towel dispenser (between 80cm - 100cm).
- The following fixtures are not at the recommended height: the toilet roll holder (not between 80cm - 100cm), the wash basin (not between 72cm - 74cm) and the baby changing facility (not at 75cm).
