Introduction

  • The route is from the Blue Badge parking bays, next to the Students' Union building to the front entrance of the Atrium, where the main reception is located.
    The route covers the parking area, the road and both the pathway and steps that lead to the Atrium.

Blue Badge Parking

  • There are designated Blue Badge bays located at the side of the Atrium main entrance in front of the exit doors to the Student Union Quarter.
  • There are 6 bays which are 300cm x 410cm.
  • The nearest bay is 28m from the Atrium (main entrance).
  • The furthest bay is 46m from the Atrium (main entrance).

Path from Blue Badge Bays

  • There is a marked path from the Blue Badge parking area to the ramp that leads to the Atrium (main entrance).
  • The path is tarmac.
  • The path leads to a tactile paved area at the start of the ramp leading to the entrance.

Tactile Paved Area

  • The area at the start of the path has tactile paving and this then leads to the paved path to the Atrium (main entrance).

Ramp to Atrium Main Entrance

  • The ramp is located to the left of the steps to the Atrium when facing the main entrance from the Student's Car Park and to the left of the marked pathway from the Blue Badge parking area.
  • The ramp is permanent and has a slight gradient. The surface is concrete paving and is uneven in places.

Path to Steps at Atrium

  • The path from the Blue Badge parking area to the steps at the front entrance is block paved.
  • The pathway has a slight slope.

Steps to Atrium and Main Entrance

  • There are 9 steps with a height of 16cm. The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides going up.
  • The steps can be overcome by using the ramp.

Entrance (Main)

  • This entrance is located to the front of the Atrium.
  • The entrance area is not clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is ramped and stepped access at the entrance.
  • The ramp has a slight gradient.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide with a handrail that switches sides.
  • The ramp bypasses the steps.
  • There are 9 steps with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The steps are clearly marked.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 16cm.
  • The depth of the steps is between 30cm and 45cm.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 106cm.
  • The key card to the left activates the automatic door, not the push pad.
  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 130cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 74cm.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.
