Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via slight slopes.
  • There are two entrances into the building.
  • The main entrance provides step-free access via slight ramps and has one set of permanently held open double doors followed by a set of automatic double doors.
  • Both entrances give access to the ground floor.
  • The main entrance is signed as Astley Clarke Building.
  • There is another entrance towards the rear of the building on the ground floor with four steps and handrails on either side and a manual single door.
  • This entrance accesses the building near the Lecture Theatre and is signed as Astley Clarke Building - Lecture Theatre entrance. .

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
  • There are resting areas in some lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
  • Overhead and wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
  • There are manual doors in some main circulation corridors that are permanently held open, but there are none that need to be opened manually.
  • Access to some areas is by manual doors.

    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.

    • The male and female step-free standard toilet facilities are located on the lower ground, ground and second floors.

Entrance (Main)

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building.

  • The ramp is over 150cm wide with a handrail on the right going up.
  • There is a similar alternative ramp to the right of the entrance with a handrail on the left going up.

  • The width of the opening is 140cm.
  • The doors have a high visual contrast.
  • There is a second set of double automatic doors.
  • The second set of doors open away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 115cm.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located along the main corridor.
  • The distance from the main entrance is 10m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and automatic doors.

  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The weight limit for the lift is 800kg.
