Accommodation Overview

About
View
- The Langstone East Block is located in Furze Lane, Southsea. There are 3 accommodation blocks in total, the Langstone East Block is located to the right of the courtyard area.
- The building is split into blocks of flats. The floors of the building are signed as ground, first, second and third. Flats 1-3 occupy the ground floor, Flats 4-6 occupy the first floor, Flats 7-9 occupy the second floor and Flats 10-12 occupy the third floor.
- The reception and laundry room is located in a separate block in the courtyard in-between the Langstone East and West accommodation blocks.
- There are 96 rooms in total. There are 8 rooms per flat and 12 flats in total.
- There is 1 room with adaptations available within the Langstone East Block.
- The room with adaptations is located on the ground floor of the Langstone East Block, within Flat 3. There is step-free level access to the room once inside the building.
- The room with adaptations has an ensuite with a wheel-in shower.
- Standard accommodation has ensuites with stepped shower cubicles.
- Shared kitchen facilities are available in each flat. The shared laundry room is located within the separate reception block.

Getting Inside
- The approach to the building is step-free level or step-free via very easy slope.
- The approach to the Langstone East Block from the reception block is step-free via a steep ramp and uneven surfaces.
This ramp can be overcome by approaching the building across the courtyard, passing the Langstone West Block.
The approach to the building from the courtyard is step-free level.
The approach from the East and Trust Block car park is step-free via very easy slope and a dropped kerb with tactile paving. - There are 2 entrances into the building which give step-free access to the ground floor.
The accessible entrance is located at the front of the building off the courtyard and has key card activated automatic doors.
The entrance to the rear of the building is located off the East and Trust Block car park and has double manual doors.
This entrance gives access to the stairwell and there is an additional set of double manual doors to go through to access flats 1-3 or exit the building via the accessible entrance. - There is no distinguishing signage between the two entrances as they are both signed as 'East Block Flats'.
- The accessible entrance provides step-free access via steep ramp to the ground floor of the building.
- The rear entrance provides step-free access via steep ramp to the stairwell area of the building.
Getting Around
- There is step-free level access throughout the building on the ground floor only.
There is stepped access to the first, second and third floors. - Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth with some having a shiny finish in the communal corridors.
The individual flat corridors consist of carpet. - There are no resting areas in the main circulation corridors.
- There is wall mounted signage available on all floors and in the stairwell.
- There are manual doors to enter the individual flats and some manual doors in some of the circulation corridors on each floor.
There are also manual doors to enter and exit the stairwell.

- The washroom facilities which have adaptations are located within Room 3.7 on the ground floor of the building.
- Standard washroom facilities are located within all of the standard accommodation bedrooms.
Parking (East and Trust Block Car Park)

- The car park is located to rear of the East and Trust accommodation blocks.
- The car park is open air/surface.
- The car park surface consists of tarmac.
- There is 1 designated Blue Badge parking bay available.
- The Blue Badge bay is clearly marked.
- The surveyed Blue Badge parking bay dimensions are 253cm (width) x 485cm (depth).
- There is a marked zone to one side but not at the rear.
- The width of the marked zone is 86cm.
- The nearest designated bay is 21m from the Langstone East Block rear entrance.
- The most accessible route from the Blue Badge parking has a very easy ramp or slope and uneven surfaces.
- There is a dropped kerb with tactile paving from the designated Blue Badge parking.
- The Blue Badge Bay is also 52m from the Trust Block entrance.

- The approach to the entrance has uneven surfaces.
- The entrance area is clearly signed.
- There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The ramp has a steep gradient.
- The ramp is over 150cm wide with no handrails.
- There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 72cm.
- There are double automatic doors at this entrance, however one door is locked.
- The doors open towards you.
- The width of the opening is 73cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
- The doors have a low visual contrast.
- There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 116cm.
- There is step-free level access as you enter.
Entrance (Flat 3)
- This entrance is located immediately to the right as you enter via the accessible entrance.
- The entrance area is clearly signed.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 113cm.
- There is a single automatic door at this entrance.
- The door has a locked extension leaf.
- The door opens towards you.
- The width of the opening is 67cm.
- The door has a low visual contrast.

- The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
- The work surface is 91cm from the floor.
- A lowered work surface is available with a clear knee recess.
- The lowered work surface is 76cm from the floor.

- The stairs surveyed are located ahead and to the left as you enter via the accessible entrance.

- The ground, first, second and third floors can be accessed by these stairs.
- There are 17 steps between floors.
- The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
- The handrails are not easy to grip.
- The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
- The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
- The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
- The height of the highest step is 17cm.
- The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
- Lighting levels were low at the time of the survey.
