Accommodation Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free and level with some uneven surfaces.
  • The approach from the East and Trust Block car park and the Trust Block car park is step-free and level with a dropped kerb along the route.
    The approach to the Flats 6, 7 and 8 entrance is step-free and level.
    The approach to the Flats 1, 2 and 3 entrance and Flats 4 and 5 entrance is step-free via very easy slope.
  • There are 4 entrances into the building.
    All entrances have slight ramped and stepped access.
    All entrances have manual doors and provide access to the stairwells and ground floor flats.
  • The entrances are signed as 'Trust Block Flats' with the relevant flat numbers next to them.
  • The entrance surveyed provides slight ramped and stepped access to the ground floor stairwell area of Flats 6, 7 and 8.
  • The entrance for Flats 1, 2 and 3 provides slight ramped and stepped access to the ground floor stairwell area.
    There are 2 similar slight ramped and stepped entrances to access the Flat 4 and 5 stairwell area.
    There are no flats on the ground floor of this stairwell; Flats 4 and 5 are located on the first and second floor.
    There is also internal step-free level access to Flat 1 and Flat 6 from this entrance.
  • There are no main circulation corridors within the building. Each entrance gives access to a stairwell and the entrances to the flats are located within the stairwells.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building in the ground floor flats only.
    There is stepped access to the flats on the first and second floor.
  • Floor surfaces along the circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
    The flooring in the individual flats is carpeted.

    • The nearest designated bay is 21m from the Langstone East Block rear entrance.
    • The most accessible route from the Blue Badge parking has a very easy ramp or slope and uneven surfaces.
    • There is a dropped kerb with tactile paving from the designated Blue Badge parking.
    • The Blue Badge Bay is also 52m from the Trust Block entrance.

    • This car park is for Blue Badge holders, staff permit holders and student permit holders only.
    • Parking is free for all users.

Entrance (Flats 6, 7 and 8)

  • This entrance is located directly ahead as you face the Langstone Trust Block.
  • The approach to the entrance has uneven surfaces.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is ramped and stepped access at the entrance.
  • The ramp has a slight gradient.
  • The ramp is over 150cm wide with no handrails.
  • There is 1 step with no handrails.
  • The step is unmarked.
  • The height of the highest step is 5cm.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 115cm.
  • There is a single manual door at this entrance.
  • The door opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 89cm.
  • The door has a low visual contrast.
  • There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 118cm.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Kitchen/Dining (Flat 6)

  • The kitchen/dining area is located immediately ahead as you enter Flat 6.
  • There is step-free level access into the kitchen/dining area.
  • There is a single manual door with a low visual contrast.
  • The door opens inwards.
  • The width of the opening is 77cm.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
  • The flooring is shiny.

  • There is a single manual door to access the stairwell.
  • The ground, first and second floors can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 15 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are not easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 18cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
  • There are similar sets of stairs in each corner of the accommodation block. There are 3 stairwells in total which serve the different flats.
