Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via very easy slopes.
  • University Learning Centre has two entrances. Both entrances provide step-free level access with a very easy slope to the ground floor. There are double automatic doors available at both entrances.
  • The front entrance is signed as University Learning Centre but the rear entrance is not signed.
  • The front entrance provides step-free level access with a very easy slope to the reception foyer on the ground floor.
  • The rear entrance is located on Alec Rose Lane.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation are hard and smooth, with a shiny finish.
  • There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating .
  • There are manual doors in some corridor and lobby areas.

    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
    • Ambulant toilet facilities are located in the standard toilets on the first, second, third, fourth and fifth floors.

  • The doors open towards you.

  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
  • The doors have a high visual contrast.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Reception

  • The reception is located to the left from the front entrance.
  • The distance from the front entrance is 10m.
  • There is step-free level access to reception.
  • The height of the reception desk is 110cm.
  • There is a lowered section at the desk.
  • The height of the lowered section is 75cm.
  • The reception has glazed screens.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.
  • Some flooring is shiny.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located at the rear of the building.

  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).

  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 90cm.
