Alternative Routes (Floor 1)

  • Alternative Lift Route - Option 1 View
    • If you are on floor 1 and the lift is not working, there is an alternative route to access floors 2-4 via the AA/AB lift in the Frank Whittle Building (AB).
      At the lift turn right and exit the building via the Lewis Carroll Building (AC) lift lobby entrance.
      Take the platform lift and as you exit turn right towards the access road.
      Follow the road straight and continue along until you reach the Frank Whittle Building (AB) on the right.
      Enter the Frank Whittle Building (AB) via the ground floor and take the AA/AB lift on the left to access floors 2-4 of the Elizabeth Fry Building (AD) via the Lewis Carroll Building (AC).
    • The approximate length of the route is 75m.
    • Access along the route includes a slight slope.
    • There are automatic doors along this route.
  • Assistance Required View
    • If all lifts are out of service or you require emergency assistance please call 01483 682002 and Campus Safety will attend. Evacuation chairs are available.

Alternative Routes (Floors 2, 3 and 4)

  • Alternative Lift Route - Option 1 View
    • If you are on floors 2-4 and the lift is not working, there is alternative access to other floors or to exit the building via the AA/AB lift in the Frank Whittle Building (AB).
      The photographs in the guide refer to the route on floor 3.
      The route on floors 2 and 4 are similar, however it requires key code access through restricted teaching areas and there are some steep slopes in the corridors.
      To access this lift, exit the lift lobby to the right and follow the corridors, through the teaching spaces and exit via the Department of Engineering until you eventually reach the AA/AB lift.
    • The approximate length of the route is 175m.
    • Access along the route includes steep ramps.
    • There are manual doors to open along this route and a key card or code is required.
  • Alternative Lift Route - Option 2 View
    • If you are on floors 3 and 4 only, there is a separate alternative route to exit the building via the link bridge to James Joule Building (BC) and exiting through the Alan Turing Building (BB) and via the BB lift.
      At the lift turn right and cross the link bridge into the James Joule Building (BC).
      Enter the building via floor 3 and continue along the corridors and through the teaching spaces until you reach the Alan Turing Building (BB).
      Enter the building via floor 3 and carry on following the corridors until you reach the BB lift lobby.
      Take the lift to the ground floor.
      After the lift, turn left and exit the building via the Engineering and Science Reception entrance.
    • The approximate distance of the route is 190m.
    • Access along the route is step free and level.
    • There are manual doors to open along this route.
