Overview

Disability Advice Contact Details

  • The Student Centre brings together student support services, including Disability Advice, who provide confidential, pre-booked appointments in-person or online on a range of issues.
  • They also run drop-in sessions, events and other activities throughout the year.

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via slight slopes.
  • The Library has two entrances.
  • Both entrances provide access to the ground floor.
  • There are barriers beyond the main entrance. The width of the barriers are 90cm and the height of the card readers on the barriers are 105cm.
  • The main entrance is not signed but the accessible entrance is signed as wheelchair access.
  • The accessible entrance provides step-free access to the ground floor.
  • The main entrance is located off Library Square and has stepped access.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout majority of the building on all floors.
  • On the first floor there is a slight ramp to access study area and toilets.
  • Access to the standard toilets on the basement is via 2 clearly marked steps without a handrail.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are carpeted.
  • There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
  • Wall mounted signage is provided throughout the building.
  • There are not manual doors in any circulation corridors, only to access some stairwells.

Reception (Library Service Desk)

  • The reception is located ahead from the accessible entrance, at the front of the library.
  • The distance from the accessible entrance is 45m.
  • There is step-free level access to reception.
  • The height of the reception desk is 105cm.
  • There is a lowered section at the desk.
  • The height of the lowered section is 72cm.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • The height of the touchscreen display ranges from 100cm to 130cm from the floor.

Lift (Main)

  • The distance from the accessible entrance is 74m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and doors permanently held open.
  • The ground floor, first floor and second floor are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a medium visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings, Braille markings and a high visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
